A field of Approx 60 rolled out from Newbridge last Sunday, onto a undulating 17 km cuicuit on the Curragh. Trevor was the first to make his presence felt and was away for a portion on the first lap. Into the Second lap Martin lined it out for Noel, where he got away in a group of 6-7 riders. This group worked well gaining about 45 seconds by the start of lap 3, this move looked like it was staying away and it wasn’t long before a chase group of 6 riders got out of the main field containing Martin Cullinane. Within half a lap this group, working well together, bridged the gap by the top of the first climb and pushed on putting some 2 minutes into the main field.
With 2 laps to go the break pushed on with a few attacks on the climb of each lap, but pretty much stayed together with a few riders losing contact, Noel was right in the mix up until the last lap.
On the last lap the race had to be neutralized as a crash in the A3 race was blocking the road whilst being tended to by ambulance. After about 20 minutes we got going again, Martin O Loughin (Carrick) was making his presence felt on the last climb and shortly afterwards an Asea rider got away, with the remaining 6 or 7 riders contesting the sprint where Martin Cullinane was 3rd. Great showing and team work by the club in the A2 and 3 races.
