This Saturday, September 15th, a group of us here in Comeragh CC will attempt to complete a pretty arduous task when we take on our 8 counties challenge. The cycle encompassing upwards of 260km on the day for most, will travel through parts of Wexford, Wicklow, Kildare, Carlow, Laois, Kilkenny, Tipperary and Waterford.
The participants, as well as putting in some serious training distances have also being fundraising in the form of seeking sponsorship on the day as they’re doing it all in aid of the Lisa Power fund, a cause very close to the hearts of locally and throughout the wider cycling community.
We’ll depart from our usual meeting point of the Bank of Ireland car park on Paddy Browne’s road at 7:30am on Saturday morning heading in the direction of New Ross. From there we’ll head to Enniscorthy and on to our first stop of the day in or around the 80km mark at Bunclody for coffee. Through Tullow we’ll go and on in the direction of Baltinglass before turning towards Castledermot and on to our dinner stop at Toghers restaurant just outside Carlow estimated to be around the 12:30pm mark or shortly thereafters. After dinner our journey will take us on a cheeky little dip round Carlow’s ring road which parts of are in Co. Laois and then we’ll be onto the Carlow-Kilkenny road, the road which was the main road before the opening of the M9 motorway. Around the ring-road in Kilkenny and from there we’ll head on the main Kilkenny-Clonmel road. We’ll have our final pit-stop in Callan at around the 200km mark. We’ll turn towards Carrick-on-Suir at Glenbower before spinning on through Kilmeaden and back through Waterford City. Our ultimate destination on Saturday evening we’re estimating should be somewhere around the 6:30-7:00pm mark at the Community Centre in Kilmackow.
We’ll be posting updates throughout the day on Facebook and Instagram, so keep an eye out of us, and if you see us on the road, sure give us an auld beep!
