I have recently been in touch with Paul Carroll of Rebike and for those who are not aware of what it is, Rebike is a charitable organisation set up by Paul a few years ago. In his own spare time Paul takes in old bikes that are no longer required by their owners, he repairs and replaces parts and makes the bikes like new again, he then donates the bikes to families or groups that cannot afford to purchase bikes themselves. He has over the last few years donated hundreds of bikes and put smiles on many children’s faces.
Paul does this completely in his own time and with the kind donations of spare parts from local bike shops including our sponsors Altitude. Currently Paul is in the process of setting up a coffee shop on the outskirts of Dungarvan on the Greenway, any profits made from the coffee shop will be used to purchase materials to continue repairing and donating bikes to much needed families (I know how much cyclists love their coffee stops so you might keep an eye on Facebook for the grand opening and pop in to support Paul in his new endeavor)
With Christmas fast approaching Paul is receiving requests from Families who need help with Santa! I am reaching out to all clubs within the wider Waterford cycling community. If any of your members have old children’s, teenagers or even adult bikes that you have in your sheds, garages, attics that you no longer need or want and would like to see go to a good home for Christmas, I am opening up my house as a collection point this Saturday Nov 11th between 3-5pm. If you have any bikes you would like to donate and don’t know where to find me, please give me a call on 087-2680088 after 5.30pm any evening for directions.
(Note: While all bike donations are greatly appreciated, no rust buckets please, the bikes need to be in a repairable condition)
I am hoping to have a positive response, it is a great service that Paul is doing and it is a great way for our cycling community to give back, you’d never know one of those bikes donated maybe the first of many for any future Sam Bennett!!
Thank you in advance, appreciate your support.
